Nothing will make you feel more confident walking into a restaurant photo shoot than knowing you are prepared. For me, that means checking off all the items on my pre-shoot To Do list and having everything from my packing list set out and ready to load up.
I keep different versions of my packing list in a spreadsheet so I can refer back to specific shoots that may have required special equipment or props. The items I have listed under Base Gear come with me on every shoot. If I know I’ll be working with a food stylist then I don’t bring much from the Styling Gear section. If the client wants to use my background boards or props, I’ll add those items to the packing list.
